Ingredients

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking ammonia ( this is available at your local pharmacy , they 'll probably give it to you when you say you only need )
1 teaspoon cardamom , powdered
1 teaspoon clove
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon ginger , powdered
4 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup slivered blanched almonds
Brun Kager, or brown cookies, are a traditional Danish Christmas treat. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2.In a medium-large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
3.Stir in the corn syrup.
4.Add the baking ammonia, spices, and salt, beating until smooth.
5.Mix in the flour to make a stiff dough.
6.Shape the dough into small balls and place them 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
7.Flatten each ball with the palm of your hand and sprinkle the slivered almonds on top.
8.Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
9.Cool for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
