Venice High School Cherry Butter Cookies were first created decades ago as a fundraising project for the school. These cookies quickly became a popular treat in the local area and were enjoyed by many people. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.In a small bowl, combine the flour and salt; set aside.
3.In a large bowl, cream butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add confectioners' sugar and vanilla, beating well. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in the chopped walnuts and cherries.
4.Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with a fork.
5.Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks.
