Zopf is a classic Swiss bread that has been enjoyed for centuries. It's a braided bread that is often served on special occasions, such as Easter and Christmas. Zopf gets its name from the braid, which resembles a ponytail, or Zopf in Swiss German. The bread is popular in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, where it's often eaten for breakfast or as a snack. Some people like to spread butter and jam on their Zopf, while others prefer to eat it with cheese or cold cuts. Whatever your preference, Zopf is a delicious bread that's worth trying if you haven't already.

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt ingredients together thoroughly.
2.Warm 1/2 cup milk and dissolve the sugar and yeast in it.
3.Add the butter and 2 1/2 cups milk to the flour mixture and mix thoroughly.
4.Knead the dough until it's smooth and then cover it with plastic wrap for 30 minutes to allow the dough to rise.
5.Divide the dough into strands and braid them together like you would with hair, using three or more strands. Tuck the ends of the loaf under and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
6.Brush the surface of the loaf with the egg yolk and half-and-half or heavy cream mixture before baking in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30-40 minutes.
