Ingredients

150 g plain flour
150 g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
130 g butter
90 g caster sugar
1 grated lemon , zest of
1 grated orange , zest of
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
150 g mixed dried fruit
50 ml milk
1 medium egg , beaten
1 medium egg
glace cherries
blanched almond ( to decorate )

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 200C (180C fan) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2.In a large bowl, sift the flours, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon together.
3.Cut the butter into small cubes and use your fingertips to rub it into the flour mixture until it looks like breadcrumbs.
4.Stir in the sugar, mixed dried fruit, and grated zest from the orange and lemon.
5.In a small bowl, beat the egg and milk together, and then add it to the flour mixture. Mix well to form a soft dough.
6.On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a circle about 2cm thick. Cut the dough into 8 or 9 discs and place them onto your prepared baking tray.
7.Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the top of each disc. Cut each glace cherry in half and press them gently into the dough. Top each disc with some almond halves.
8.Bake the rascals for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown. Remove them from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
