Baklava is a traditional pastry that originates from the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. It's a luxurious dessert that's often served at special occasions and celebrations. Every family will have their own recipe for baklava, and Yiayia's Rolled Baklava is a recipe that's been handed down through the generations. The combination of sweet and nutty flavors in this pastry makes it a favorite among those who love a good dessert. The process of layering and rolling the phyllo dough can be quite time-consuming, but the end result is well worth it.

Instructions

.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
.In a mixing bowl, combine the ground walnuts, cinnamon, and breadcrumbs or zwieback cookies. Mix well.
.Melt the butter and Crisco in a saucepan over medium heat.
.Lay a sheet of phyllo on a cookie sheet and brush it with the melted butter mixture. Add 2-3 more sheets of phyllo, brushed with the butter mixture, on top of the first sheet.
.Sprinkle the walnut mixture evenly over the top of the phyllo layers.
.Roll the sheets and filling up tightly, using the cookie sheet to help roll it up. Brush the top with more butter mixture.
.Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
.While the baklava cools, bring the sugar, water, lemon juice, and honey to a boil in a saucepan on medium-high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the syrup thickens slightly.
.Pour the syrup over the baklava and let it soak in for at least 8 hours or overnight before serving.
