Yeshimbra Assa is a traditional Ethiopian dish that mimics the taste and texture of fried fish using chickpea flour. It's a popular vegetarian dish that's enjoyed as a protein-rich alternative to meat. The savory and spicy sauce is made with berbere, a traditional Ethiopian spice blend that contains chili peppers, garlic, ginger, and several herbs and spices. It has a unique flavor that complements the crispy chickpea balls perfectly. This dish is a great option for vegans and vegetarians looking for a tasty and nutritious dish that's easy to make.

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, add chickpea flour, salt, white pepper, grated onions, and finely chopped garlic. Mix well and gradually add water to form a thick and smooth batter.
2.Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
3.In a separate pan, heat the oil and add finely chopped onions and garlic until they turn translucent. Add berbere and continue stirring for another 2-3 minutes.
4.Stir in water, salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes until it thickens.
5.Finally, add the fried chickpea balls and simmer for another 5 minutes to allow them to absorb the sauce. Serve hot.
