Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups oatmeal
1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs , beaten
5 tablespoons light molasses
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts ( optional )
1/2 cup raisins ( optional )

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a large bowl mix together flour, oatmeal, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
3.In another bowl, cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs, molasses and vanilla.
4.Mix in the dry ingredients. Stir in walnuts and raisins.
5.Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
6.Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
7.Let cool and then serve.
