Ingredients

1/2 cup maraschino cherry , drained and finely chopped
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup cold butter
12 ounces white chocolate baking squares , with cocoa butter , finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 drops red food coloring ( optional )
2 teaspoons shortening
white multicolored sugar nonpareils ( and or red edible glitter )

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 325°F.
2.In a large bowl, mix together flour and sugar.
3.Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
4.Stir in chopped cherries, almond extract, and food coloring (if desired).
5.Press mixture evenly into an ungreased 13x9 inch baking pan.
6.Bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
7.In a microwave-safe bowl, melt white chocolate and shortening together, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
8.Spread melted white chocolate mixture over the warm shortbread.
9.Sprinkle with multicolored sugar nonpareils and/or red edible glitter.
10.Let cool completely and cut into bars.
