1/4 cup sliced almonds ( optional )
1/8 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

1.In a small saucepan, combine pitted prunes, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the prunes break down and the mixture thickens, about 15 minutes.
2.In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, followed by almond extract and light cream. Gradually stir in flour, salt, and baking powder until a dough forms.
3.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out two-thirds of the dough on a floured surface to fit a greased 9-inch square baking dish. Spread the prune mixture over the dough. Roll out remaining dough and place it on top of the prune mixture. Brush with softened butter and bake for 30 minutes.
4.In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar icing, light cream, ground almonds, and almond extract. Spread over the Vineterta. Sprinkle with sliced almonds if desired. Serve warm or cold.
