1 1/4 cups softened butter

2 large pears

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.

3.Peel and slice the pears, arranging them over the butter mixture. Sprinkle with brown sugar.
4.In a mixing bowl, beat the remaining 3/4 cup of butter until creamy. Add the egg and beat well. Stir in the molasses.
5.In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in boiling water; add to the molasses mixture. Gradually stir in the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Mix well.
6.Pour the batter over the pears, spreading evenly.
7.Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
