2 eggs , lightly beaten

1/3 cup self-raising flour , sifted
1 cup plain flour , sifted
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda , sifted
1/2 cup cocoa powder , sifted
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
100 g unsalted butter
100 g dark chocolate , chopped

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced./
2.Grease a 22cm cake pan and line the base with baking paper./
3.In a bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the butter, soft brown sugar and espresso powder until pale and fluffy./
4.Add the lightly beaten eggs and vanilla essence, mix well./
5.Stir in the sifted self-raising flour, plain flour, bicarbonate of soda, cocoa powder, buttermilk and chocolate chips, mix well to combine./
6.Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean./
7.Sit the cake in the pan for 5 minutes before turning onto a wire rack./
8.Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the unsalted butter, dark chocolate and chocolate chips over low heat. Stir until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly./
9.Once the cake is cooled, pour the chocolate mixture over the cake and serve when the chocolate is set.
