Kebabs are a popular street food in Turkish cuisine, made from marinated and skewered pieces of meat that are grilled until tender and smoky. This recipe for Turkish Spiced Chicken Kebabs elevates the traditional kebab with the addition of fragrant Baharat seasoning, which is a blend of spices including cumin, coriander, cinnamon, paprika, and allspice. The chicken is marinated in a rich and tangy yogurt sauce overnight, then grilled to perfection and served on warm pita bread with a zesty pomegranate and pistachio relish, and smooth tahini sauce. These kebabs are perfect for a summer barbecue or a weeknight dinner option.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, whisk together 3 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, Baharat seasoning, garlic, and yogurt.
2.Reserve 1/4 cup of the yogurt mixture, covered and chilled.
3.Transfer remaining yogurt mixture to a large resealable plastic bag and add chicken.
4.Seal the bag and turn it several times to coat chicken evenly, then marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
5.Prepare grill for medium-high heat.
6.Whisk together the tahini and 1/2 cup water until smooth to create a sauce.
7.Place pomegranate seeds, pistachios, parsley, oil, and lemon juice in a bowl and toss to combine for the relish.
8.Thread chicken onto skewers and season with salt. Grill for about 5 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and chicken is cooked through.
9.Serve with the reserved yogurt mixture, relish, and tahini sauce on warm pita bread.

PROS

These kebabs are a healthy and flavorful weeknight dinner option, and are easy to make for a summer barbecue.

The pomegranate relish adds a lightly sweet and tart flavor, while the tahini sauce offers a nutty creaminess to balance the chicken’s spiciness.

CONS

The chicken should marinate overnight for maximum flavor and tenderness, so it requires some pre-planning.
