Ingredients

8 ounces sliced white bread , crusts removed or 8 -12 slices white bread , depending on the thickness
2 -3 teaspoons mixed spice
6 6 ounces raisins ( all mixed together ) or 6 ounces currants ( all mixed together )
4 ounces candied peel
10 fluid ounces milk
4 tablespoons brandy
3 ounces butter
4 ounces soft brown sugar
2 eggs , beaten
1 orange , zest of , grated
1 lemon , zest of , grated
1 tablespoon demerara sugar
grated nutmeg
Fruity and Spiced Bread Pudding is an all time classic dessert that has been enjoyed for generations. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.Cut bread slices into cubes and layer them into a buttered baking dish.
3.Sprinkle mixed spice and the mixed raisins and currants over the bread.
4.Add candied peel to the baking dish.
5.In a saucepan, combine milk, brandy, butter and soft brown sugar. Heat and stir until dissolved.
6.In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, orange zest, and lemon zest together.
7.Pour heated milk mixture over the eggs and beat well.
8.Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread in the baking dish.
9.Sprinkle demerara sugar and nutmeg on top.
10.Bake for about 40-45 minutes until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
11.Serve warm.
