Brigadeiros are a traditional Brazilian dessert, commonly served at birthday parties and other celebrations. They were created in the 1940s and named after Brigadier Eduardo Gomes, a Brazilian Air Force commander who ran for president at that time. The traditional brigadeiros are made of sweetened condensed milk, chocolate, and cocoa powder, while the pink brigadeiros have an added cherry flavor and a fruity pink color. Both are easy to make and perfect to share with friends and family.

Instructions

1.In a medium saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, chocolate, cocoa powder, and 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Cook over medium to low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to pull away from the sides of the pan.
2.Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool.
3.Grease your hands with melted butter or butter-flavored cooking spray and roll the mixture into small balls.
4.Pour the chocolate sprinkles into a small dish and roll the traditional brigadeiros until they are completely covered.
5.In a separate saucepan, repeat the same process with the cherry gelatin, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolk, and 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter.
6.Grease your hands with melted butter or butter-flavored cooking spray and roll the mixtures into small balls.
7.Pour the crystallized sugar into a small dish and roll the pink brigadeiros until they are completely covered.
