Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), grease and lightly flour a baking sheet.
2.In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
3.In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4.Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5.Beat in anise seed and mix until well combined.
6.On low speed, stir in flour mixture until just combined.
7.Mix in almonds.
8.Divide dough in half and form each half into a log about 14 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide.
9.Roll logs in turbinado sugar to coat well.
10.Place logs on the baking sheet, spaced apart, and bake until lightly browned, about 25 minutes.
11.Transfer logs to a wire rack and let cool for about 10 minutes.
12.Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (165°C).
13.Cut logs diagonally into 1/2-inch slices with a serrated knife and place the slices, cut sides down, on the baking sheet.
14.Bake for 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden brown, turn them over- once and bake for another 5 minutes.
15.Remove from oven and let cool completely on wire racks, then enjoy!
