1 lb angel hair pasta ( I used spinach linguini , it was good ! )
3 tablespoons olive oil
5 garlic cloves , minced
1 medium yellow onion , finely chopped
1 can crushed tomatoes
black pepper
20 fresh basil leaves , shredded
3 tablespoons pesto sauce , prepared and refrigerated
1 cup parmigiano-reggiano cheese ( optional , or serve on side ) or 1 cup romano cheese , grated ( optional , or serve on side )

Instructions

1.Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add pasta and cook for 5 minutes, or until still firm to the bite.
2.Drain pasta, reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid.
3.Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add garlic and onion, cooking until onion is soft and translucent.
4.Add crushed tomatoes, black pepper, and basil. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
5.Add reserved pasta cooking liquid to tomato sauce and stir in pesto sauce.
6.Add cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat.
7.Serve with grated cheese if desired.
