Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that originated in the 1960s. It is made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich and creamy mixture of mascarpone cheese, eggs, sugar, and sometimes a touch of marsala wine. It is then finished with a dusting of cocoa powder or grated dark chocolate. Tiramisu is a crowd-pleaser and is often served at dinner parties, holidays, and special occasions.

Instructions

.In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until light and frothy, about 5 minutes.
.Place the saucepan over low heat and whisk in the marsala, continuing to cook until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 10 minutes.
.Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the softened mascarpone cheese until smooth.
.In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then fold it gently into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
.In a shallow dish, mix the brewed espresso, rum, and vanilla extract together.
.Dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture for a few seconds, then place them in the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish.
.Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
.Repeat the process with another layer of espresso-dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
.Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
.Before serving, grate the dark chocolate over the top and dust with cocoa powder or chocolate curls.
