Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch (23cm) baking dish.
2.In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped dates and boiling water. Stir in the baking soda and let stand for 5 minutes.
3.In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4.Gradually add in the flour, nuts, salt, and baking powder, mixing well after each addition.
5.Stir in the date mixture until well combined.
6.Pour the batter into the greased dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7.In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, brandy, butter, and vanilla essence. Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer until the syrup thickens, about 10 minutes.
8.Once the tart is done, poke holes all over the top with a toothpick or fork. Pour the syrup over the tart while it is still hot, allowing it to soak into the cake.
9.Let the tart cool to room temperature or serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
