Belgian waffles are famous for their crispy exterior and fluffy interior, and this tipsy version elevates the flavor to new heights. The batter is made the night before and allowed to rise slowly, resulting in a waffle with a depth of flavor that cannot be achieved by traditional batter. Combining beer with the water gives the waffles a complex flavor that is both subtle and distinct. Serve these waffles with your favorite toppings, such as whipped cream, fresh fruit, or maple syrup.

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, and lukewarm water, and lukewarm beer until you have a smooth batter. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the batter rise overnight (at least 8 hours) in a warm place.
2.In the morning, whisk the sugar, eggs, salt, butter, oil, and vanilla into the batter until you have a smooth mixture.
3.Preheat your waffle iron and grease it with non-stick cooking spray. Spoon the waffle batter onto the iron and cook waffles until they are golden brown and crisp.
4.Serve immediately with your favorite toppings!

PROS

These waffles are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, thanks to the overnight rise in the batter.
The addition of beer gives them a unique flavor that sets them apart from regular waffles.

CONS

The alcohol in the beer will not fully cook out of the waffles, so they may not be suitable for children or those who cannot consume alcohol.
Additionally, the overnight rise requires some planning ahead.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

While waffles are not the healthiest breakfast option, there are some potential health benefits to this recipe. The yeast in the batter can help support gut health, and the addition of beer may contain beneficial antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
