3 garlic cloves , finely chopped
1 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes ( or to taste )
1 tablespoon anchovy paste , optional but recommended
1 tablespoon flat leaf parsley , chopped
1 can crushed tomatoes
salt and pepper , to taste
