Ingredients

1 lb sweet Italian sausage
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup of chopped onion
2 garlic cloves , chopped
1 can crushed tomatoes
2 cans tomato sauce
2 cans tomato paste
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon fennel seed
2 teaspoons fresh basil leaves , chopped
4 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley , chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
23 ounces ricotta cheese
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
1 egg
1 lb shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
12 lasagna noodles
Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that has been enjoyed for generations. It typically consists of layers of wide, flat pasta noodles, meat sauce, and cheese, baked until bubbly and golden brown. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2.In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, beef, onion, and garlic until browned.
3.Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, sugar, fennel seeds, basil, parsley, salt, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
4.In a large bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, nutmeg, and egg.
5.Spread a layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan. Layer with 1/3 of the lasagna noodles, 1/2 of the ricotta mixture, 1/2 of the shredded mozzarella cheese, and 1/3 of the grated parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, ending with meat sauce, and sprinkle remaining parmesan cheese on top.
6.Cover with foil and bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
