Ingredients

1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons grated lime rind
1/2 cup cold strong tea ( Red Rose brand prefered )
1/2 cup chopped toasted almond
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons lime juice

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°.
2.Cream together 1 cup sugar and shortening, add eggs and blend well.
3.In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt and add to creamed mixture alternately with cold brewed tea.
4.Stir in lime rind and chopped almonds.
5.Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan.
6.Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7.Combine 1/4 cup sugar with lime juice and drizzle over the warm loaf.
8.Cool in pan for 10 minutes; remove to wire rack to cool completely.
