Ingredients

1 tablespoon solid shortening
4 lbs beef chuck roast or 4 lbs rump roast
2 onions , sliced
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup sugar
2 lemons , juice of
1 teaspoon salt ( to taste )

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2.In a Dutch oven, heat shortening over medium heat. Brown the roast on all sides.
3.Add the onions, pepper, cloves, honey, sugar, lemon juice and salt. Add enough water to just barely cover the roast.
4.Cover and bake in the oven for 2-3 hours until the beef is tender.
