Ingredients

75 g butter
1 cup milk
25 g yeast
1 pinch salt
10 teaspoons sugar
3 cups wheat flour
1 teaspoon cardamom , ground ( optional )
1/2 cup egg , beaten
300 g almond paste
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups double cream
confectioners ' sugar
Swedish Semlor (or just Semlor) are a traditional pastry in Sweden, usually eaten during Lent or around the Mardi Gras period. The sweet treat is a cardamom-spiced bun filled with marzipan and whipped cream. It is really popular in Sweden and is also enjoyed in neighboring Scandinavian countries. The pastry's history dates back to the 16th century when it was served as a bread soup. Today, you can enjoy it as a sweet soft bun.

Instructions

1.Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat and stir in the milk. Heat until warm.
2.Crumble yeast into a bowl. Pour in half of the heated milk and stir until the yeast is dissolved.
3.Add the salt, sugar, cardamom, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine and gradually pour in the remaining milk, adding beaten eggs as you work.
4.Knead the dough until smooth and let it rise under a moist cloth for 40 minutes.
5.Take the dough and divide it into 18 pieces. Form the pieces into buns and let them rise again under a moist cloth for 30 minutes.
6.Brush the buns with egg and bake at 200°C for 8-10 minutes. Cool on a rack.
7.Take the inside of the buns out and mix it with almond paste and milk in a bowl until you get a paste.
8.Fill the buns with the paste and whipped cream and put the lids back on. Decorate with confectioners' sugar.
