Ingredients

1 lb smoked pork jowl , diced ( I think I used some ham and salt pork )
2 medium yellow onions , peeled and sliced
1 lb green cabbage , cored and shredded
2 quarts sauerkraut ( packed in a glass jar )
1 apple , cored and coarsely chopped
2 cups dry white wine
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1 teaspoon caraway seed
1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper ( to taste )

Instructions

1.In a large pot, cook the diced pork jowl, onions, and shredded cabbage over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until tender.
2.Add in the sauerkraut, chopped apple, white wine, brown sugar, caraway seed, and black pepper. Mix well.
3.Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
4.Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
