Ingredients

1 cup bread cubes

1 -2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons nutmeg , freshly ground
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon fines herbes
2 lbs ground beef
3 eggs , slightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
1 teaspoon garlic , chopped
1/4 cup flour
2 cups beef broth
2 teaspoons Kitchen Bouquet ( liquid gravy seasoning )
2 teaspoons tomato paste
1 -2 teaspoon liquid smoke
2 cups sour cream
1/4 cup scallion , chopped
1/4 cup fresh dill , chopped ( if using dried , 1-2 T dried )
Swedish Meatballs have a long history, dating back to the 16th century. They are a traditional dish in Sweden, often served with lingonberry sauce and boiled potatoes. The recipe we are featuring today is a classic Swedish Meatball recipe from the 1960s, made with ground beef and a creamy sauce. These meatballs are perfect for a family dinner or a dinner party with friends. They are sure to become a favorite in your household!

Instructions

1.Soak the bread cubes in milk until completely saturated.
2.In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
3.Add the chopped onion, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
4.Add the nutmeg, paprika, dry mustard, and fines herbes. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
5.In a large mixing bowl, combine the soaked bread cubes, ground beef, eggs, and onion mixture. Mix well.
6.Form the mixture into meatballs about the size of a golf ball.
7.In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
8.Add the flour to the skillet and whisk constantly for 1-2 minutes until the flour has browned slightly.
9.Gradually whisk in the beef broth, Kitchen Bouquet, tomato paste, and liquid smoke.
10.Reduce the heat to medium and add the meatballs to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
11.Stir in the sour cream and simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
12.Serve with a sprinkle of chopped scallions and dill on top.
