Swedish Frukostgifflar, or breakfast crescents, are a popular breakfast item in Swedish households. With a light and fluffy interior, the crescents are seasoned with a touch of sugar, salt, and butter. The addition of yeast ensures that the dough rises fully, creating a pillowy texture on the inside. The use of poppy seeds adds a slight nutty flavor and a wonderful crunch to these crescents. These pastries are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or any time of the day when you're in the mood for something light and sweet.

Instructions

1.Warm the milk and stir in the sugar and yeast.
2.Melt the butter and let it cool before adding it to the milk mixture.
3.In a mixing bowl, sift in the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix it well with the milk mixture to form a sticky dough.
4.Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for an hour or until it doubles in size.
5.Preheat the oven at 225 degrees Celsius and roll out the dough on a floured surface until it’s around half-inch thick.
6.Cut the dough into triangles and roll them up into crescents. Arrange them on a baking sheet and cover with a kitchen towel to let it sit for 15 minutes before brushing them with the beaten egg.
7.Sprinkle the poppy seeds on top and bake the crescents for 15-20 minutes until they’re golden brown.

PROS

These crescents are an absolute delight for breakfast and the thin layer of buttery crunch on the outside is delectable.

The crescent shape also makes them an attractive addition to a breakfast spread.

CONS

If the dough is overworked when rolling it out, it becomes tough and less flaky.

As with all bread-based breakfast options, these crescents can have a high calorie count.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

These crescents can be a great source of carbohydrates and energy to start off your day.
However, since the recipe is predominantly carb-based, it is recommended that they be enjoyed in moderation.
