3/4 cup slivered almonds , lightly toasted

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2.In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, ground cardamom, and salt.
3.In another bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract together until light and fluffy.
4.Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5.Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
6.Fold in the toasted slivered almonds.
7.Divide the dough in half.
8.On a floured surface, form each half into a log approximately 10 inches (25 cm) long and 3 inches (7.5 cm) wide.
9.Place the logs on the prepared baking sheets, leaving ample space between each log as they will spread during baking.
10.Bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
11.Remove the logs from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes.
12.Using a serrated knife, cut the logs diagonally into 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) slices.
13.Lay the slices flat on the baking sheet and bake for another 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through the baking time.
14.Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
