1 cup sugar
2 cups white flour

2 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup almonds ( chopped )
2 tablespoons lemon rind ( grated )
1 teaspoon vanilla
powdered sugar ( optional )
candied fruit ( optional )
Surmælksfrugtbrød, or Sour-Cream Fruit Bread, is a traditional Danish bread filled with a variety of dried fruits and chopped almonds. The sour cream in the recipe lends a tangy flavor and a slightly moist texture. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease two loaf pans.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, white and whole wheat flour, baking soda and powder, salt, dried apricots, and dried prunes.
3.In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add the sour cream, melted butter, chopped almonds, lemon rind, and vanilla extract.
4.Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
5.Pour the batter into the greased pans and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6.Cool the bread in the pans for 10 minutes before removing and cooling completely on a wire rack.
7.Optional: sprinkle powdered sugar and/or candied fruit on top before serving.
