Instructions

1.Rinse the split chickpeas and pigeon peas in cold water and soak them together in enough water for 4 to 6 hours.

3.Add the onion, red chili peppers, green chili peppers, salt, hing, coriander powder, chili powder, and turmeric powder to the lentil paste and mix well.
4.Scoop a tablespoon of the lentil mixture and shape it into a ball. Repeat this until all the lentil mixture is used up.
5.Steam the lentil dumplings for 10 to 15 minutes.
6.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and hing. When the mustard seeds start spluttering, add the finely chopped onion and fry till golden brown.
7.Add the grated coconut, brown sugar, and tamarind juice and bring it to a boil. Add salt to taste. Let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
8.Once done, pour the tangy gravy over the steamed lentil dumplings and serve hot.
