Ingredients

2 cups milk

1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar
8 maraschino cherries , cut into small pieces
1 tablespoon candied orange peel , cut fine
8 shelled blanched almonds , cut into thin slivers
Spumoni is an Italian dessert made from milk, sugar, eggs, and heavy cream. This dessert is similar to ice cream, but it has a different texture and flavor due to the added candied fruits and nuts. Instructions

1.In a saucepan, heat milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
2.In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks until light and frothy. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking constantly to prevent scrambling.
3.Return the mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly over medium heat until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla or rum flavoring.
4.Set aside the mixture to cool completely. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream and sugar together until stiff peaks form. Gently fold cooled milk mixture into whipped cream.
5.Add cherries, candied orange, and almonds to the mixture, gently fold and pour into a container. Place in the freezer and freeze for 4 hours.
