1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seeds , ground
1 1/2 coriander seeds , ground

750 g filet of beef
200 g yellow split peas , soaked 1hour
2 teaspoons coriander seeds , ground

2 potatoes , peeled , cut into 2cm pieces

8 curry leaves
1/2 birds eye chile , seeded , finely chopped

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 220°C.
2.Combine cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and chili powder in a small bowl.
3.Rub spice mixture over the beef.
4.Roast the beef for 30 minutes.
5.Heat the oil in a frying pan.
6.Fry the eggplant, potatoes, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and chile for 10 minutes.
7.In a pot, combine the split peas, coriander, cumin, chili powder, turmeric and oil. Add water, slightly covering the mixture. Bring to a boil and simmer for 45 minutes.
8.When the beef is cooked, remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
9.Serve the beef with masala potatoes and the split peas. Garnish with baby spinach.
