Ingredients

2 tablespoons oil
1 onion ( large-chopped )
2 -3 garlic cloves ( minced )
3 tablespoons curry powder
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 tablespoons gingerroot ( peele-grated )
1 1/2 cups water
4 tablespoons vinegar ( brown malted vinegar )
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons apricot jam ( or chutney )
2 bay leaves
2 lemon leaves
2 lbs lamb ( cut in pieces )
6 -8 small onions
2 -3 red peppers ( cut in chunks )
8 -10 dried apricots ( optional )
Sosaties are a popular South African dish that is similar to kebabs. The word 'sosatie' is derived from the Malay word sate, meaning skewered meat. Traditionally, lamb is used for this recipe, but you can use beef or chicken as well. The spicy, sweet, and tangy sauce adds a unique flavor to the tender lamb, onion, red peppers, and dried apricots. It's a perfect dish for a lazy weekend BBQ or a get-together with friends and family.

Instructions

1.In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat.
2.Add onion and garlic, and sauté until onion is translucent.
3.Add curry powder, coriander, turmeric and gingerroot. Stir gently for 1-2 minutes.
4.Add water, malted vinegar, brown sugar, apricot jam or chutney, bay leaves and lemon leaves. Stir until the sugar and jam are dissolved.
5.Simmer the sauce on low to medium heat for 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
6.Place lamb pieces in a large dish, add sauce and toss to coat.
7.Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour.
8.Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes.
9.Thread lamb, onion, red peppers, and dried apricots onto the skewers.
10.Grill kebabs over medium heat until lamb is cooked through and vegetables are charred, about 10-15 minutes.
11.Serve hot and enjoy!
