Ingredients

5 slices smoked bacon
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 pork chops
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 cup flour
1 large onion
3 minced garlic cloves
2 large carrots
1 medium cabbage
3 small bay leaves
1/2 cup cider or 1/2 cup dry vermouth
2 large apples
Smoky Pork Chops With Cabbage and Apple is a hearty and delicious meal that is perfect for cooler weather. This dish is loaded with flavors and plenty of seasonal vegetables. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2.In a large frying pan, fry the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan and set aside on a paper towel to drain the excess fat.
3.Season the pork chops with black pepper and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Coat the pork chops with flour.
4.In the same frying pan used to cook the bacon, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. When hot, add the pork chops to the pan and cook for about 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove the pork chops from the pan and place them in a casserole dish.
5.In the same frying pan, heat another tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and carrots to the pan, sauté for around 5 minutes. Then add cabbage, bay leaves, cider or dry vermouth and bring it to boil, cook for another 5-7 minutes.
6.Pour the cabbage mixture over the pork chops in the casserole dish. Cut the apples into small chunks and add to the top of the pork chops and vegetables. Season with the remaining 1 teaspoon salt.
7.Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
8.After 45 minutes, remove the aluminum foil from the pork chops and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes.
