Ingredients

2 cups water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon sugar ( used with yeast )
2 teaspoons salt
5 tablespoons canola oil ( if not fasting ) or 5 tablespoons butter ( if not fasting )
2 packages active dry yeast
6 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup poppy seed
1/2 cup honey
Slovak Bobalki is a traditional Christmas Eve meal in Slovakia. It consists of flour dumplings, poppy seeds, and honey. The dumplings are made by mixing yeast with flour, sugar, salt, and water, and letting the dough rise. After baking, the dumplings are broken into small pieces and mixed with poppy seeds and honey. This dish is unique in taste and texture, making it a must-try for those who love trying traditional cuisine from around the world.

Instructions

1.Mix water, 3 tablespoons sugar, salt, and oil/butter in a saucepan. Heat up till warm.
2.In another bowl, mix yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar. After a few minutes, add it to the saucepan.
3.Add all-purpose flour, little by little, until the dough is formed. Knead it for 10 minutes.
4.Cover dough and let it rise for an hour or until doubled in size.
5.Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C. Separate the dough into walnut-sized balls and lightly oil it. Arrange it on a lightly oiled baking sheet and let them rise for 20 minutes.
6.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bobalki is lightly browned. Let it cool.
7.Break it up into small pieces and place in a bowl. Add poppy seeds and honey and mix well. Serve.
