Ingredients

24 round wonton skins
10 ounces lean ground beef
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons frozen green peas , thawed ( about 24 )
1 1/2 tablespoons mirin
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 cup dashi
Shu Mai is a Japanese style steamed dumpling that is made from a delicate wonton wrapper filled with ground beef, green peas, and seasoning. The little cups are bursting with savory and juicy flavors and are perfect for snacking or starting off a meal. The best part is that it is incredibly easy to make but looks and tastes very impressive. It is often served in Dim Sum style restaurants, but you can also make it at home to impress your guests or for an easy weeknight dinner.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, combine the ground beef, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, sugar, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Mix well.
2.Take 1 wonton skin and place about a teaspoon of the beef filling in the center. Pinch the skin together to form a little cup.
3.Top the beef filling with a few peas.
4.Repeat with the remaining wonton skins and filling.
5.In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mirin, soy sauce, dashi, and remaining 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil and 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch.
6.Put about 1/2 inch of water in a steamer and bring to a boil over high heat. Set about 8-10 dumplings in a single layer in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Cover and steam for 5-8 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through and the wonton wrapper is translucent.
7.Repeat with the remaining dumplings. Serve hot.
