Shepherd's Pie, also known as Pate Chinois in some parts of North America, is a classic dish that originated in England in the 18th century. It is traditionally made with leftover roasted meat and vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes and baked until golden brown. The name 'Shepherd's Pie' comes from the fact that it was often made with ground lamb meat, which is the meat typically used in shepherd's stews. This recipe uses ground beef instead, which is a popular variation. It is a comforting and delicious meal that can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Instructions

1.Peel and wash the potatoes. Cut them into even sized pieces and add them to a large pot of salted boiling water. Cook the potatoes for 20-25 minutes or until they are fully cooked. Drain the water and add in butter, milk, salt and pepper. Mash everything together until you have a smooth and creamy consistency.
2.Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until it is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess liquid.
3.Add diced onions and sliced button mushrooms to the same skillet. Sauté for a few minutes until the onions are softened. Add in soya sauce and let the mixture cook all together for a few minutes.
4.Spread the cooked meat mixture at the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Spread the corn all over the meat and pour the creamed corn over the top.
5.Finally, spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the corn mixture. Sprinkle some parsley on the top of the mashed potatoes for decoration.
6.Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and crispy. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
