Ingredients

2 pounds ground beef
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon ground coriander , or more to taste
1 teaspoon ground cumin , or more to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon ground red chile pepper , or to taste
salt to taste
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chana dal
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Breading :
2 eggs
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 teaspoon ground red chile pepper , or to taste
salt to taste
1/4 cup bread crumbs , or as needed ( optional )
1/4 cup vegetable oil , or as needed
Shami Kabab (Bun Kabab) is a popular fast food item in Pakistan. It is sold on roadside stalls and is also available in restaurants and food courts. The kababs are made from minced beef mixed with spices and chana dal. The mixture is then fried and served in a bun with sliced onions, tomatoes and mint chutney. This meal is commonly eaten as a snack or as a quick meal. It is loved by people of all ages and backgrounds. The kababs are soft, flavorful and have a unique texture which makes them a crowd favorite.

Instructions

1.Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours. Drain and set aside.
2.In a pressure cooker, add beef, garlic paste, ginger paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, red chilli powder and salt.
3.Add 1/2 cup water and chana dal. Cook on high heat for 5 minutes after the first whistle.
4.Reduce heat and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the pressure release naturally.
5.Once the mixture has cooled down, blend in a food processor until smooth.
6.Add cilantro and mix well.
7.In a separate bowl, mix eggs, cilantro, red chilli powder and salt.
8.Make small balls of the meat mixture and flatten them.
9.Dip each flattened kabab in egg mix and then coat with breadcrumbs.
10.Heat oil in a pan and fry the kababs until golden brown on both sides.
11.Serve the kababs in buns with sliced onions, tomatoes and mint chutney.
