1 quart vegetable oil
15 slices white bread , cut into 2-inch squares
4 cups whole milk
2 cups white sugar
4 cardamom pods
4 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 pinch saffron

Instructions

1.In a deep-fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350 degrees F.

5.In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the whole milk, white sugar, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and saffron and bring to a boil.
6.Reduce the heat to low and let the milk mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes until it thickens and reduces to about 2 cups.
7.Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool.
8.Layer the fried bread squares in a serving dish.
9.Pour the milk mixture over the fried bread squares and let it soak in for at least 30 minutes.
10.Garnish the Shahi Tukra with toasted sliced almonds and serve.
