Scottish Mealy Pudding is a hearty traditional Scottish dish that dates back to the 18th century. It is made of oatmeal, onions, and suet, and traditionally served as part of a full Scottish breakfast or supper. The texture is similar to haggis, and it is a popular alternative for those who do not eat offal. The dish originated in the highlands of Scotland, where the ingredients were readily available and affordable for the local people. Today, Scottish Mealy Pudding is loved not only by Scots but by people all over the world. It is a wonderful comfort food that can be enjoyed at any time of the day or night.

Instructions

1.Mix oatmeal, chopped onions, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
2.Gradually add 1.5 cups of boiling water while stirring until the mixture forms a thick paste.
3.Cut the beef suet into small pieces and add it to the mixture. Mix well.
4.Spoon the mixture into a well-greased 2-quart lidded pudding basin and cover with a lid.
5.Steam the pudding for about 3 hours, adding water to the steamer if necessary.
6.My favorite way to serve this pudding is to heat it up in a frying pan with butter until it’s crispy on all sides. It’s delicious!
