Ingredients

8 ounces self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon caster sugar
2 tablespoons natural bran
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 ounces butter
7 fluid ounces milk

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas Mark 6.
2.Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, bran and salt together in a mixing bowl.
3.Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
4.Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk.
5.Mix to form a dough, then turn out onto a lightly floured work surface.
6.Roll out the dough to about 1 1/4 inch thickness and cut out circles using a scone cutter or the rim of a glass.
7.Place the scones on a greased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until well risen and golden.
8.Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
