Ingredients

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons flour
2 lbs swiss steak
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons onions ( chopped )
3 tablespoons tomato puree
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon beef bouillon
1 cup water
1 cup sour cream
Schweizersteg Med Surfløde, or Danish Sour-Cream Swiss Steak is a classic dish that is popular in Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. A tenderized cut of beef, such as round steak or flank steak, is coated with flour and then browned in butter. The steak is then slow-cooked with onions, tomato puree, and beef bouillon to create a flavorful creamy gravy. The dish is typically served over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. It is an excellent choice for a hearty meal, especially during the cooler months.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.Season the steak with salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons of flour, rub the flour in to completely coat the steak.
3.Melt the butter in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat and then brown the steak on all sides.
4.Remove the steak and set it aside to rest.
5.Reduce heat to medium, sauté the onions briefly until soft.
6.Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons flour and cook for another minute.
7.Stir in the tomato puree, 1/2 cup water, and bouillon cube, whisking until smooth.
8.Simmer for a few minutes until the mixture thickens.
9.Add in the 1 cup of water.
10.Return the steak to the skillet.
11.Cover with a tight lid and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
12.Remove from oven, stir in the sour cream and return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.
