Ingredients

1 package yeast
2 cups milk , scalded and cooled to lukewarm
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons soft butter
6 -8 cups flour
1 teaspoon crushed cardamom seed ( optional )

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk.
2.Add sugar, butter, and mix well.
3.Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition until a stiff dough is formed.
4.Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, then cover it and let it rise for about an hour.
5.Punch down the dough, knead it for another minute or two, and then divide it into two portions.
6.Roll each portion out into a long rectangle and place them on baking sheets, letting them rise again for about 30 minutes.
7.Bake at 350 degrees for about 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Once done, cool on wire racks, and slice into thin pieces before serving.
