Scandinavian Browned Butter Cookies "dreams" are a traditional Christmas cookie in Norway. These cookies are a variation of the classic butter cookie, with the addition of browned butter and cardamom for a nutty and spiced flavor. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook the butter until it becomes a light brown color and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely at room temperature.
3.In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter and sugar. Beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolk, vanilla, cardamom and salt and beat until combined.
4.Add the flour to the butter mixture in two parts, mixing after each addition until just combined.
5.Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
6.Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
7.Roll a rounded tablespoonful of dough into a ball and place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, spacing the balls 2 inches apart.
8.Using a pastry brush, brush each ball with egg white and press 1 almond on top of each cookie.
9.Bake for 11-13 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
10.Sift powdered sugar over the top of the cooled cookies.
