Ingredients

9 lasagna noodles
3 tablespoons butter
1 onion , finely chopped
2 garlic cloves , minced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
3/4 cup parmesan cheese , grated divided
1/2 cup gruyere cheese , grated
1 tablespoon lemon zest , freshly grated
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
salt & freshly ground black pepper , to taste
2 bunches swiss chard , tough stems removed leaves chopped into small pieces
1 lb bulk sausage
Sausage and Swiss Chard Lasagna is a delicious and hearty Italian dish that is perfect for dinner. This recipe takes traditional lasagna to the next level by using Swiss chard instead of spinach and adding sausage for extra flavor. Swiss chard is a leafy green vegetable that is native to the Mediterranean. It has a slightly bitter taste and is often cooked like spinach or kale. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F
2.Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
3.In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
4.Add flour and whisk until completely combined with onion mixture. Cook for 1 minute.
5.Whisk in milk and bring mixture to a simmer. Cook for a few minutes, until mixture has thickened.
6.Add 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, gruyere cheese, lemon zest, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Stir until cheese has melted and sauce is smooth.
7.Stir in the chopped chard leaves and cook until wilted and tender; remove from heat.
8.In the same skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through (about 10-12 minutes). Drain excess grease.
9.To assemble, place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with 1/3 of the chard mixture, followed by 1/3 of the cooked sausage. Repeat layers two more times, ending with the chard mixture on top.
10.Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese over the top.
11.Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until top is golden brown and lasagna is heated through. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
