San Francisco Style Bagels are a regional variation of traditional New York-style bagels. These bagels are denser, sweeter, and have a larger hole in the center than the New York style bagel. San Francisco-style bagels are also boiled in water that contains honey and salt, allowing the surface to have a slight sweetness that makes them special. They are great for breakfast, brunch or lunch and extremely versatile when it comes to toppings. They are perfect for busy mornings or lazy weekends when you have time for preparation.

Instructions

.In a large bowl, combine half of the flour with yeast, 1 1/4 cups of warm water, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt. Mix it well and add the remaining half of the flour gradually.
.Keep stirring the mixture until a dough is formed. Knead the dough for approximately 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
.Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
.Preheat your oven to 400°F.
.Divide the dough into 8 pieces of equal sizes and shape them into balls.
.Use your finger to poke a hole in the center of each ball and make it wide enough to perform a bagel shape.
.Combine 4 cups of water with 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 teaspoons of honey in a large pot and bring it to a boil.
.Drop the bagels into boiling water, one at a time, and boil them for 1 minute on one side, then turn it over, and boil for another minute.
.Use a slotted spoon to remove the bagel from the pot and place it on a baking sheet that has been dusted with cornmeal.
.Brush the top of the bagel with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on it.
.Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until it turns golden brown on top.
.Enjoy your San Francisco Style Bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, or any other of your favorite toppings.
