Ingredients

1 1/2 teaspoons anise seeds , toasted
2 1/4 cups flour , unsifted
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons lemons , zest of , grated
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter , cold , cutup
1 1/2 cups pine nuts , toasted
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 cup sambuca liqueur ( I use black , but you can use white or the red for a cinamon flavor ! ! )

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, lemon zest, salt, and toasted anise seeds.
3.In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
4.Gradually blend in the eggs, sambuca liqueur, and dry mixture until the dough forms.
5.Fold in the toasted pine nuts.
6.Divide the dough in half and form each half into a long log on a baking sheet.
7.Bake for 25 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
8.Remove from oven and allow to cool.
9.Slice each log into 1 inch slices with a sharp knife.
10.Place the slices on their sides back on the baking sheet.
11.Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
