Ingredients

two 14-ounce cans sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup dark rum
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
Rum Dulce De Leche is a sweet and creamy caramel sauce that is popular in Latin American cuisine. Traditionally made by simmering milk and sugar for hours until it turns a rich caramel color, this recipe uses sweetened condensed milk for a shortcut. The addition of dark rum adds a depth of flavor to the caramel and makes it perfect for topping ice cream, cakes, and other desserts. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a decadent treat! This recipe is easy to follow and will result in a deliciously rich sauce that can be kept in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 425°F.
2.Pour your sweetened condensed milk into a baking dish and stir in the dark rum, vanilla extract, and salt.
3.Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in a larger roasting pan.
4.Fill the larger roasting pan with warm water until it reaches halfway up the side of the baking dish.
5.Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven for 1.5-2 hours, checking the water level periodically and adding more warm water as needed.
6.Once the mixture in the baking dish has turned a rich caramel color and has thickened to a creamy consistency, remove it from the oven, let it cool, and transfer it to an airtight jar for storage.
