Ingredients

4 -6 thinly sliced steak ( some grocery stores will call it rouladen )
1 large onion , chopped
8 -12 slices uncooked bacon , chopped ( smoked bacon may be substituted )
pickle , chopped ( opptional )
dry mustard
salt
pepper
garlic
2 -3 beef bouillon cubes
Rouladen is a classic dish in German cuisine that has been enjoyed for generations. Traditionally made using thin beef slices, the steak is filled with a mixture of onions, bacon, and pickles (if desired), then rolled up and cooked until tender. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
2.Pound the steaks lightly with a meat mallet until thin and even in size.
3.Spread chopped onion, bacon, and pickles (if using) evenly across each steak. Sprinkle with dry mustard, salt, pepper, and garlic to taste.
4.Roll up the steak tightly and secure with toothpicks.
5.In a Dutch oven, brown the roll ups on all sides.
6.Add enough water to cover the roll ups, and dissolve the beef bouillon cubes in the water.
7.Bake in the oven for 1 1/2-2 hours or until tender.
8.Take out the rolls ups and sauce. Using a sieve, remove any onions, bacon, or pickles from the sauce and discard.
9.Add cornstarch slurry to sauce and stir until thickened. Pour over the roll ups and serve.
