Ingredients

4 cod fish fillets or 4 haddock fillets
6 ounces plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 bottle british beer , Small
1/2 lemon , juice of
salt & pepper
extra flour
3 lbs potatoes , peeled & chipped
good quality cooking fat or oil

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 200°C.
2.Peel the potatoes and cut them into chips.

7.Heat the oil in a deep-fat fryer or large, deep saucepan to 180°C.
8.Dredge the fish in the extra flour and shake off any excess.
9.Dip the fish in the batter to coat it completely.
10.Carefully lower the fish into the hot oil and fry for 6–8 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown.
11.Drain the fish on kitchen paper and serve immediately with the hot chips.
